Hello everyone. I trust this
day finds you happy and spiritually grounded.
I trust this day finds your families and friends are safe and loved.
I trust this day finds you ever vigilant, guarding and seeking ways to
help keep all of us safe, healthy, and free.
I trust this day finds you appreciating this great nation and the world we
live in as a whole.
Now to what I have been thinking about the last few weeks:
An event at which all of the above truths are capable of moving and
expanding at a rate none of us can imagine. The possibility that an
event could bring about such change is hard to believe, but I believe that
event is at hand.
Now get ready for the scary part!!! The source of this great event
is the United States government. Presidential Executive Order 13147,
White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy:
Section I establishes a commission to study Complementary and Alternative
Medicine Policy: Section II: Functions. The Commission shall
provide a report, through the Secretary [HHS], to the President, on
legislative and administrative recommendations for assuring that public
policy maximizes the benefits to Americans of complementary and
alternative medicine. (See

After exploring complementary medicine for over 22 years and having
attended more than 30 meetings of various government hearings and having
testified more than ten times, I have come to believe the need, now more
than ever, to explore and integrate into our society these healing arts.
The final report on the above commission's findings will be finalized on
March 7th, 2002 an provided to the Secretary of Health and Human Services
for delivery to the President and to the Congress.. The importance
of this report is that if it is well written, it will be a blueprint for
legislators in how to improve health care in delivery of service and cost
effectiveness to our civilian and military populations. Having seen
complementary and conventional therapies work together in the VA, through
my work with Compassion in Action, I know that it is possible and that now
is the time.
Having a firsthand view of the challenges they faced, which so much
mirrored life when it comes to making health care decisions, I'd like to
thank Steve Groff, James Gordon, Wayne Jonas, Sister Charlotte, and
the many other fine commissioners and staff
for their hard work in bringing together
the Commission's recommendations.
I now ask you to take a good look at the recommendations or to trust me
when I say we must support this document and demand that it is included as
a part of the new health care paradigm. And because it is a mid term
election year, we have the greatest opportunity of our lifetime to protect
those whom we love, who love us, and ourselves. Please take time to call or E-mail your congressmen and your senators and ask them read the White House
Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy report,
support its recommendations - especially where it will improve veterans
health care - and that they
demand the implementation of the recommendations received as a result of
Executive Order 13147. When we look at the health care of ourselves,
our friends, and our families, incorporating conventional and
complementary perspectives will improve the quality and effectiveness of
both.
I do strongly believe that of all the government regulations, commissions,
etc., etc., etc., this Commission's report provides and opportunity for
us to truly take control
of our health and change the way health care is administered, mentally,
physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
