This month I want to address an issue that will be very important to every American: the National ID card. After 9/11 the government drafted the Patriot’s Act, a document that established the protocol and procedures necessary to identify American citizens, alien residents, and foreign visitors coming in and out of the United States. While, in theory, this seemed like a good enough idea at the time, in reality, this document has led to the invasion of our privacy and abuses of the United States Constitution by the federal government. The Patriot’s Act has apparently given the FBI permission to enter a citizen’s home without a warrant for the purpose of retrieving personal documents. And this can be done legally - without your knowledge! Yes, the FBI can break into your house, and take anything they want without ever telling you they’ve been there. We no longer have any protection against unlawful search and seizure. To me this sounds very much like the methods of the German Gestapo! Keep in mind that after the Nazis burned down the German Parliament building, Hitler combined all of the country’s security agencies into one and called it “Homeland Security”. One of the most intrusive provisions of the Patriot’s Act is the mandate to create a National Identity Card, by the year 2010. This national ID will be a standardized driver’s license that links everyone to a national data base. Without this form of ID, you will not be able to operate a motorized vehicle, get on an airplane, or enter any federal or state building. With this type of tracking capability, BIG BROTHER will know where you are, and basically what you’re doing, at all times. Now, here’s the irony: this is a totally unfunded mandate that is going to cost the American people roughly $23,000,000,000.00 (that’s twenty-three billion dollars). Long story short, that means in order to get your new ID, it will cost you approximately $300 and it will take 3 days for you to meet all the requirements and get your new ID. Now, I have heard there is a piece of legislation in the works, to repeal the new ID provision. This legislation is being sponsored by Sens. Daniel Akaka (D-Hawaii), John Sununu (R- NH) and Jon Tester (D- MT). I urge you to write your state and federal representatives to inform them where you stand on this critical issue. I
thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support. Dannion Visit the That Ain't Nothin' Archives
